A round up of some of the news from Arklow & districts for the past week

Arklow Marine Services launched the M.V. “GAIRSAY SOUND” on 15th June.  The vessel is a 16 metre salmon farm tender of all steel construction with twin screw propulsion for manoeuvrability in confined areas.  The vessel was built for Scottish Sea Farms the second of a two vessel contract, the first being the “Sally Ann” which was delivered last year and will be located on the Orkney Islands in North West Scotland.  Sea trials will take place next week with delivery at the end of the month.

Wicklow’s five Municipal Districts will each receive €20,000 each for tourism projects.  Arklow Municipal District’s allocation will go toward a feasibility study on the Arklow Pottery Museum and a Wicklow G.A.A. Museum.

 

Arklow Harbour has been granted €105,000 funding as part of a national programme for the repair and development of piers and harbour.  €63,750 for fender system for fishing boats, 41,250 for a slipway for sailing dinghies on north side of the Avoca River.

 

The Wicklow County Council Community Grants and Merits Awards ceremony took place on Monday 8th June in the Arklow Bay Hotel.  Among the award winners were The Guardian Children Project, Arklow Coastcare and St. Peter’s Primary School.

Bradley’s Pharmacy Group recently became the new owners of Duffy’s Pharmacy which had been run by Frank and Sandra Duffy for 30 years.  The Duffy family will continue to operate their First Choice Pharmacy outlet at Tesco, Arklow.
