ARKLOW  BLOOMS FOR 2017 – FLOWER BASKET SCHEME

 

Hanging BasketsArklow Town Team support by the Arklow Municipal District (AMD) has introduced a Flower Basket Scheme for businesses in the Town.  Research has shown that this type of scheme can bring many social and environmental benefits to a town.  At the May meeting of AMD it was agreed that €2,500 would be provided for three tier flower baskets for Arklow town centre.

For a contribution of €35 per basket participants in the scheme will receive the following:-

  • A fully planted 16” flower basket (with plant food and water crystals)
  • Wall Bracket mounted on building by AMD staff
  • Watering of baskets during the period June to September 5 times per week x 16 weeks, (3 times by a contractor engaged by AMD and 2 times by Arklow Tidy Towns). However, businesses are requested to supplement watering too.

Businesses located out of the Main Town area might consider sponsoring a basket which could be erected on one of the unused buildings in the town.

Musical Rental Scheme

 

A musical rental scheme was launched on 8th May.  The scheme is collaboration between Wicklow County Council and Music Generation Wicklow and its aim is to encourage young people to try out an instrument before purchasing one of their own. Musical instruments will be available for rent by families and community groups from the Arklow LibraryMusic Generation Wicklow is a local partnership between Wicklow County Council, Music Generation Ireland and the Kildare & Wicklow Education & Training Board.  In 2015 the elected members of Wicklow County Council made funding available for a scheme to encourage young people to participate in instrumental learning and several young students from Music Generation Wicklow performed at the launch.or more information on the scheme visit Arklow Library or Music Generation Wicklow websites.

 Arklow Train Station

 

Arklow-Train-Station2Congratulations to the staff of Arklow Train Station on been highly commended in the Commuter Station Category at the 2017 Iarnród Eireann Best Station Awards.  Arklow Station manager, Dave Murphy, and station staff member, Eugene Breen, recently collected the Award Certificate in Inchicore. Voting was conducted through an online poll and voting at stations and commuters were asked to rate their station on Customer Information; Station Appearance and Staff Helpfulness and Arklow Station scored highly in all categories.
