Music in the Garden

Marie and Roy Dempsey welcome you to their annual Music in the Garden at Monument Lane on Sunday 26th June from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Congratulations to Leah Penston on winning the Best Actress award at the AIMS musical theatre awards in Killarney!

Leah Penston from Avonmore Musical Society received the award for her performance in the role of Eva Peron in Evita. Evita also won third prize in the Best Overall Show category, while Chris Currid and Stephen Acton were nominated for Best Male Singer and Best Director respectively.

Arklow Rock Parnells Field Day

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Arklow & District Chamber Ball and Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday 16th of September in the Arklow Bay Hotel. As usual the ball promises to be a wonderful night to celebrate all that is good about business in south County Wicklow. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend. The evening will commence with a drinks reception at 7.15 pm with Dinner served at 8.15pm followed by the presentation of awards.

The awards will recognise local people & businesses and their achievements in the following categories:

For any business opened within the last 12 months

  • Best Established Business

For established businesses who excel in any sector, small, medium or large

  • The Service Excellence Award

To recognise those companies providing outstanding to their customers

  • The Young Achiever Award

This award goes to a young person who has given service to the community through any field such as, entrepreneurial, sport, education, arts, culture or community service

  • Ambassador for Tourism Award

For any business providing tourism related services or a community group or individual who helps support or promote tourism in the area

  • The Employee of the Year Award

Any outstanding employee can be nominated by customers, co-workers or an employer

This award will recognise a person who, through their achievements, has made an          outstanding contribution to the town or is an Ambassador for Arklow

 

Pat Fitzgerald named as new Wicklow County Council Cathaoirleach

Arklow Councillor Pat Fitzgerald has been named as the new Cathaoirleach for Wicklow County Council. He was nominated along with Sinn Fein Councillor Michael O’Connor from Bray. Pat Fitzgerald won by 30 votes to 3 with 5 members abstaining 4 Councillors were not present, 3 of Michael O’Connor’s Sinn Fein party members abstained from voting. Outgoing Cathaoirleach John Ryan and County Manager presented Councillor Fitzgerald with the chain of office at a Council meeting on Monday.

Water Outage – Arklow Town

Irish Water in partnership with Wicklow County Council wish to advise residents of Arklow Town that water services will be shut off in parts of the Arklow Town North from 5 pm on Friday 24th June to 8 am Saturday 25th June, to carry out essential network improvements. VaultFest 2016

East Wicklow Youth Services are hosting their annual VaultFest 2016 on Sunday 3rd July 2016 from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Bandstand Arklow Main Street. There will be Face Painting, Ju-Jitsu Martial Arts display, Drumming sessions, Pot-planting, Barbeque, Refreshments, Teenage bands and the Ukulele group with guest artists. The Vault Shop will be open on the Main Street. This year the festival is being run in conjunction with National Recreation Week 2016 which runs from Sunday 3rd to Friday 8th July and is promising to be bigger and better than ever this time around.

Exhibition in the Visual Arts Gallery

Three Arklow Artists – Mary Whelan, Declan O’Leary and Peter Murray are inviting all to their first exhibition at the Visual Arts Gallery from Monday 4th July to Saturday 11th July. The artist all participate in the monthly Bridgewater Craft Fair on the first Sunday of every month. They look forward to welcoming you on that day. Admission is FREE. Please support local artists.
