Arklow & District Chamber Ball and Awards Ceremony 2016

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Arklow & District Chamber Ball and Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday 16th of September in the Arklow Bay Hotel. As usual the ball promises to be a wonderful night to celebrate all that is good about business in south County Wicklow. Both members and non-members are welcome to attend. The evening will commence with a drinks reception at 7.15 pm with Dinner served at 8.15pm followed by the presentation of awards.
The awards will recognise local people & businesses and their achievements in the following categories:
For any business opened within the last 12 months
- Best Established Business
For established businesses who excel in any sector, small, medium or large
- The Service Excellence Award
To recognise those companies providing outstanding to their customers
- The Young Achiever Award
This award goes to a young person who has given service to the community through any field such as, entrepreneurial, sport, education, arts, culture or community service
- Ambassador for Tourism Award
For any business providing tourism related services or a community group or individual who helps support or promote tourism in the area
- The Employee of the Year Award
Any outstanding employee can be nominated by customers, co-workers or an employer
- The Person of the Year Award
This award will recognise a person who, through their achievements, has made an outstanding contribution to the town or is an Ambassador for Arklow

Arklow – the Best Place to Live in Ireland?
Last week Arklow & District Chamber hosted a very popular public presentation by Simon Wall, Westport Town Architect in the Arklow Bay hotel. As the Town Architect to the Town of Westport Co Mayo for almost two decades; Simon is responsible for the built environment as part of the Town Management team. The idea for Arklow Chamber to host a talk on the Westport experience was sparked by a discussion between Gerard O’Brien of the Woodenbridge hotel and Minister Simon Harris and won immediate and universal support from members of Arklow Chamber and Arklow Municipal District.

In accordance with Section 38 of the Roads Traffic Act 1994, as amended, Arklow Municipal District proposes to introduce the following traffic calming measures in Arklow Town:
- Make Bradshaw’s Lane one way – with entry from the Main Street.
- Change the road markings on Dunne’s Lane to incorporate parking spaces and a loading bay.
A map showing the proposed changes will be available for inspection at the Arklow Municipal District Offices commencing Monday 25th April 2016 up to and including Tuesday 7th June 2016 during normal office hours.
Submissions and observations in relation to the above proposals may be made in writing to Linda McDonald, on or before Tuesday 7th June 2016.

Arklow Tidy Towns
Arklow Tidy Town committee have asked us to let you know that the Tidy Towns judge is expected to visit Arklow in June. They ask you to please make a special effort to ensure our town is presented the best way as possible. They would like you to make sure that front and back entrances, back gates, front steps are clean and weed free.
At the moment Arklow is third out of twenty six entrants in the county, best large town and bronze medal winner. They are aiming this year is to top 300 points and improve on last year’s achievements.
Arklow Tidy Town committee is very appreciative of the support of the Arklow & District Chamber, Arklow Municipal District, the businesses and townspeople of Arklow.

Arklow Library has a community room available, free of charge, for non-profit organisations. Meetings would need to take place within library opening times – open till 8.30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact Claire or Laura at Arklow library if they can be of help.

The new Arklow library offers a wide range of facilities, apart from books, such as audio visual materials, free internet and Wi-Fi access, research and study space, relaxation space and facilities for special events and meetings.
Also included is a range of Polish books, made possible by a very kind financial contribution from the Polish embassy.
Wedding Showcase in the Arklow Bay Hotel
On Monday 6th June 2016 the Arklow Bay Hotel will be hosting a wedding showcase. Come and view their newly refurbished civil ceremony suite, the grounds which will be set for a civil ceremony and the beautiful Bay Suite ballroom.
The Arklow Bay Hotel, Wicklow’s finest wedding venue will be running the wedding showcase from 2 pm to 5 pm.
The hotel’s bridal suite with panoramic views of the Arklow Bay will also be on show for you to view. The hotel will also have excellent offers available on the day for any weddings booked. Along with all of this, the wedding team will be on hand to with all their expertise to answer any of your questions and help guide you on your way.

Book sale at Old Arklow Library
The Old Arklow Library will host a used book sale this Saturday 4th June from 9 am to 5 pm. Wicklow Library Service will be selling off a large selection of ex-library books and some great bargains will be up for grabs on the day. Jack & Jill Charity Shop celebrates 1st Birthday
The Jack & Jill Charity Shop in Arklow is celebrating its first birthday and plenty of celebrations are planned at the Main Street outlet. Everyone in the community is invited to come along on Saturday 11th June for a coffee morning followed by a day full of fun activities.
The Jack & Jill organisation would like to thank everyone for their support in their first year. Remember that every €16 raised provides one hour of homecare for sick children. The store accepts clothes, bric a brac, jewellery, shoes, books, DVD’s/CDs, handbags, toys and furniture.
