New Arklow Library opens on 4th April
The Arklow library located on St. Mary’s Road since 1979 closed its doors last Friday for the final. The new library on Arklow’s Main Street will be open to the public on Monday 4th April. The new premises will include a dedicated IT, relaxation, study and reference areas, it will have a larger collection of ebooks, elanguage resources and emagazines. It also has a community room which will be available for local groups.
The opening hours at the new library are:
10am – 5pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and
10am – 8.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday.
McMullans wins “Best Music Window Display”
As part of this years festival Arklow Chamber of Commerce sponsor the “Best Music Window Display” to help promote the town during the festival. The 47th Arklow Music Festival was another very successful event again this year! Arklow owes a debt of gratitude to the voluntary committee for their hard work including John Bonner, Eileen Clandillon, Rhoda O’Connor, Roisin O’Neill, Peter Kearns, Jimmy Russell, Tony Fennell, Tommy Nolan, Bridget Greene, Marian O’Regan, Thomas Kelly and Jo Walker.
Celtic Challenge 2016
Members of Arklow Rowing Club held a fund raising event in Bridgewater Shopping Centre last weekend. They challenged themselves to row 90 miles in two days to raise fund for the upcoming Celtic Challenge. This event takes place every two years and crews from the rowing club will row from Arklow to Aberystwyth in Wales over the May Bank Holiday. The Arklow Ladies’ Crew will be defending the title held by them since 2008.
Funding raising towards the cost of the race will continue with a Race Night being held on 1st April in the Old Ship. You can contact any member of the rowing club if you wish to buy a horse, jockey, or sponsor a race or if you would like to have your name printed on the side of the boat you can do so by donating €5.
