Congratulations to Aoibhin Redmond on winning a Garda Youth Award!
Young people across County Wicklow were awarded for their achievements within the community at a special ceremony on Saturday 9th January 2016 in The Parkview Hotel, Newtownmountkennedy. Eighteen winners of Wicklow Garda Youth Awards received their glass trophies and were nominated by family members, group leaders, teachers and others. The awards were allocated to people who did voluntary or charity work in the community, displayed bravery, or overcome difficulties in their lives.
Aoibhín Redmond is a singer/songwriter/musician from Arklow. Her principal Máire Mic Mhuiris nominated Aoibhin for a Garda Youth Award due to her charity work: firstly with GOAL -recording an original song along with a fundraiser in Bridgewater Shopping Centre with an online fundraiser and sending the funds earned to GOAL for struggling Syrian families. Aoibhin also got together with the Arklow Community Action Resource Centre and organised a charity concert for Arklow’s homeless. These events along with other achievements earned her the Independent Garda Youth Award which was presented to Aoibhin by singer/songwriter Luan Parle.
Aoibhin said that the award ceremony was buzzing full on brilliant young people and MC’d by Declan Meehan from East Coast FM. It was a great night for all involved.
