Robert Mullan – a treasure trove of Wicklow images now available
Robert photographed news and sport in south Co Wicklow for both local and national newspapers in the 1980s and 90s. A while back he ‘unearthed’ some of the negatives from that period and has ‘digitalised’ over three hundred from the well over 400,000 images he owns. While there is a ‘Search’ box on the pages, it will not find everyone in every shot. After all this time, he won’t have records of names and other details of a lot of the shots. However, feel free to browse, you never know who or what you might come across! It is over 12 years since Robert decided to leave local photojournalism to explore other areas such as architectural photography. During this time, he has seen huge technological changes. Looking back, ‘turning digital’ brought him great personal satisfaction and helped to win many distinctions through his photography of the built environment, including:
Royal and SunAlliance/Irish Professional Photographers Association “Photographer of the Year 2001”
“Commercial Photographer of The Year 2003”
British Professional Photographers Association
“Overseas Architectural Photographer of the Year 2004”
Winner of the Craftsman Award, Irish Professional Photographers Association
Irish Professional Photographers Association “Best Reportage Wedding Portfolio Winner 2012”

Arklow success as it hosts the Coastal Championship
Arklow welcomed over 150 visitors to the town over the weekend for the inaugural Irish Open Coastal Rowing Championships. The event ran very smoothly and saw 32 crews contest both single, doubles and team categories. All of the registered teams made it to the day of rowing including 12 from Arklow, Vartry Rowing Club, Bray and two Welsh crews: Towey Boat Club and Llanion Warriors. “There was lots of praise from the visiting crews and it was such a success” – remarked Charlie Dayman of Arklow Rowing Club.
Arklow Rowing Club would like to thank everyone who worked hard to make this day so successful and run so smooth. The Club would specially thank to their Under 16 boys and Jeanne and Threaloch who got all boats off the beach and back to shore safely in the icy cold water.
For the results and more information please visit Arklow Rowing Club Facebook page or visit the website.
