All of the local groups are taking part in the festival, such as Arklow Pipe band, Arklow Majorettes, Arklow Sea Scouts, Arklow Rowing Club and many more.
Family entertainment forms, as always an important part of the festival and the younger fans will enjoy the many family-oriented events as well as the Disney Characters and their disco that will be down at quayside from 1pm.
Music has become a large part of the Maritime Festival and this year is no different. There will be lots of local young talent at “The Vault” stage; Denise Brennan will be performing her new single “Sailing with the Wind” Live on the quayside.
Meanwhile the volunteer organising committee has done a great job of securing some tried and tested attractions as well as some new ones. This event is primarily a fundraising event for the Lifeboat station, despite this most of the attractions are FREE, the RNLI would like to thank to the generosity and sponsorship of all local businesses.

Afloat – A Water Borne Brass Performance in Arklow
Composer George Higgs, Arklow Rowing Club and brass sextet The Blown Identity present a river borne musical performance on August 2, 2015 at 1 pm at Arklow Harbour, near the Arklow Life Boat Station on South Quay.
A community arts project between composer George Higgs, Arklow Rowing Club and The Blown Identity (Arklow based brass sextet) involving a brass performance moving along the Avoca Estuary in Arklow during the Maritime Festival 2015.
Composer George Higgs has been working with Arklow Rowing Club and local brass sextet The Blown Identity (directed by Paul Barrett) over 10 months to develop a half-hour ‘musical conversation’ to be performed from boats moving along the Avoca through Arklow during the Maritime Festival on August 2, 2015.
The musicians with instruments and the rowers with oars will move along the river in 2 large boats communicating musically with each other and the geography of the river; the aim being to give a voice to the relationship of the community with the river that will be heard both at a local and national level.
The performance of the composition will begin at the Bridge at noon on August 2, 2015, upstream from the town, and slowly move down the river to culminate at the Docks near the South Quay for a full performance at 1:15 pm.
This project is supported by the Arts Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme managed by CREATE- the national development agency for collaborative arts.
