New pedestrian and traffic management proposals for Arklow

Wicklow County Council are seeking your input to new pedestrian and traffic management at Bridge Street/South Quay/Main Street/ Lower Main Street Junctions.

The Council are seeking submissions and observations on the proposed development in writing to :  Transportation and Roads Infrastructure, Wicklow County Council, County Buildings, Station Road Wicklow Town on or before 12 noon on Wednesday 19th August 2015.

Official Opening of M11 between Arklow and Rathnew

Sean Quirke, Director of Roads at Wicklow County Council, announced at Monday’s council meeting that work on the N11 between Arklow and Rathnew will be completed this week and as a motorway order has already been signed by the Minister the new dual carriageway is set to be officially opened on Monday 13th July.  Work on this 16.5km of dual carriageway is months ahead of schedule, it will be called the M11, will have a 120kph speed limit and will reduce the travel times for commuters.

Arklow Municipal District would like to invite business owners and interested parties to a meeting to discuss ideas on the development of a Christmas Festival for Arklow Town i.e. Ongoing cost of Christmas Lights; Christmas Parking Incentives;     Sponsorship of a Festival; Christmas Market; Carol Service, etc.  The meeting will take place on Monday 6th July at 6.30pm in the Arklow Municipal District Offices, Avoca River House, North Quay, Arklow.  Written suggestions can also be forwarded to Linda McDonald, District Administrator, Arklow Municipal District, Avoca River House, North Quay, Arklow, Co. Kirsten Einarsdottir from Iceland visited Arklow on Monday 22nd June.  She was in Co. On Thursday evening the Seabreeze Festival launched this year’s event in Murphy’s Bar on the Main Street.  The launch included the new festival website and the 2015 programme.  It was an opportunity to meet some of this year’s Bridgewater Seabreeze Princess Competition.

 

Congratulations to members of the Arklow Rowing Club.  A crew from Arklow won the Sportsman’s Trophy for their efforts in the Isle of Scilly event  while the Junior Men’s Crew won the Cork Ocean to City event.

 

There were great celebrations in St. Joseph’s National School on Thursday for the official raising of the Active Schools Flag. Well done to pupils, teachers, parents and outside agencies all worked together to achieve this goal.
