Arklow RNLIArklow RNLI and the Irish Naval Boat, the LE Ciara, rescued four people and saved a boat from running aground during the height of the Maritime Festival. On Sunday the RNLI volunteers made their way through a very busy Arklow harbour heading down the Avoca River to locate the distressed vessel.

Following the incident, Mark Corcoran, Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer said:
“This incident happened just in advance of a planned exercise involving our lifeboat and the local fire service and the Coastguard helicopter it shows the importance and need for multi-agency interactions during search and rescue operations, we look forward to future exercises involving the naval service and all of our local emergency services”.

Arklow This Week

M11Arklow is open for business and leisure. A new stretch of motorway between Rathnew and Arklow has been opened on Monday 13th July by Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe. The 16.5 kilometre route replaces one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the country. National Roads Authority spokesperson Seán O’Neill says it should cut journey times by between 10 and 20 minutes.

Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Mr Bryan Doyle, said, “the upgrading of this section of the N11 has been the number one objective of Wicklow County Council since the opening of the Rathnew /Ashford bypass in 2004.

“A total of eight dangerous bends including the notorious Balinameedsa bends which has been the scene of many bad accidents and fatalities will soon be a distant memory for the main road users of County Wicklow,” he added.

A new album “Sailing with the Wind” recorded by Arklow singer Denise Brennan will be available on iTunes in the coming days in aid of ARKLOW LIFEBOAT!!! Click the link below to view a very special video for the Title Track “Sailing with the Wind”, in honour of our Lifeboat Heroes!!!
