Festival Fills Arklow Town

Arklow Seabreeze Music and Arts Festival exceeded all expectations bringing huge crowds for the entire festival  creating a magical experience . It drew to a close on Sunday night with a spectacular fireworks display on the Riverbank.

The level of visitors to the town was astonishing as there wasn’t a single room left in hotels and guest houses in the community.

There were many highlights which went down a storm including the Dainty Bakery Baby Show, Trade Winds Burger Contest and the AGB Festival of Football.

There was great praise for the small eight member committee under the chairperson of Colm Moules who pulled together an event to be proud of. The committee would like to thank the people who gave their time and money to help this year’s festival including the press and photographers, East Coast FM for their support, the emergency services, Order of Malta, and The Gardai.

Extend a special word of thanks to the generous sponsors whose support helped to make the 2017 Seabreeze Festival possible.

The Arklow Maritime Heritage has the latest and recent acquisition which is a set of signal flags donated by John Mahon of Oaklands, Arklow. John has donated over time several items from schooner, The Denbighshire Lass’. Along with the flags was a fid, a finely tapered wooden spike which was used for slicing ropes.

In recent weeks they have received a telegram sent by Captain Jack Kenny to his wife in 1940 after he had survived a submarine attack on the ship which had been sunk, but thankfuly there were no casualties on that occasion.

Another donation from Patrick O Neill  who is a native from Arklow. A baby’s cradle made from sail canvas. Wooden frame is being made so the cradle can be shown to its best advantage. It will be a star attraction to the museum.
